Easter Chick
This is a very simple and effective pattern for a small Easter chick. It is easy enough for quite young children to do, but anyone of any age is sure to enjoy making it.

You will need:

3 mm knitting needles
Thin yellow wool
A big and a little sewing needle
A scrap of fleece wool or shredded tights, for stuffing
Thick black thread
Orange cotton
Orange felt

Method:

Cast on 20 stitches. Knit three rows (the whole chicken is in garter stitch, all plain).

On every following row knit the first 2 stitches together until there are only four stitches left.

Cut the wool, leaving a long end and thread it onto a large sewing needle. Pull the knitting needle out of the stitches and pass the sewing needle through the remaining loops. Sew the diagonal sides together using over and over stitch.

Fill the chick with fleece wool and sew up the last side. Finish off and trim ends.

Cut a diamond shape for the beak out of the orange felt and sew it into place with the matching cotton, and small needle.

Make the eyes with a couple of stitches out of the black thread. Finish off by putting the needle through the chick and snipping the thread, so that the end is left inside the body.
