Welcome to the School or Home section of the Jamboree.

My name is Wendy, and I write this section of the Jamboree. If you have any feedback, or a question you would like to ask me, please click here.

All the articles are listed on the left, the latest being 'Frequently asked Questions'.

The aim of this section is to tell people who don't know much about home education, the welcome news that it is perfectly possible and well within anyone's capability. I also hope it will encourage those who are already doing it, to continue.

My aim isn't to worry people who are happy with the system, but to encourage people who aren't, to do what they believe to be right.
In this world today, it is rare for home educators to find encouragement and support, in fact they usually meet with the exact opposite from everyone. This is the reason I would like to say as loudly and as clearly as I can that learning at home is a wonderful option, and that it opens up a world of freedom and possibilities which many people can't even imagine.
This is not said from an idea or a theory, it is said from all the experience that a life spent doing something brings.

Having spent time at home and school, it is easy to say which one I prefer. In fact the answer is so obvious it really feels silly to even say it. People often ask me 'don't you miss school?' 'do you like being home educated', 'how is it?', etc., and I am lost for words. They don't realise that these questions are incredibly ridiculous and to just say 'no, I don't', or 'I really enjoy home education', is, in fact, a massive understatement. To me, it is a question of my personal freedom, my self respect, my dignity as a human being, - all things which I have come to value very highly; it is not about my parents 'teaching' me, it is about having the space to grow in, to blossom in, and to be truly happy in.

I understand this may not be everyone's experience, and this is why going to school or staying at home needs to be our own choice, but I can honestly say it has been mine, which is what has inspired me to write this section.

New... You Don't Have to Go to University!
Why go through the stress of exams?   Why pay university fees?  Why not pursue your own interests, at your own pace, in your own house - and enjoy yourself?
Read two articles on studying at home:

"Home-educated young people may feel like failures if they don't fit in or do well at university, but this can be seen more as a success: it simply means they have become too honest, too uncompromising in their morals, too individual, too creative, and too advanced in understanding for the modern education system."

Why You Don't Have to go to University

Home University

"We have been revolving the idea of an on-line Home University for several months now. Bethan, Samuel and I have all been studying at home for many years, and we thought we might be able to help people just beginning the process, by passing on some of the ideas and methods which we have developed over time..."
