Welcome to the Real History home page.
We have felt justified in dedicating such a significant portion of the Jamboree to history, because a true understanding of history is so vital. I believe that many of the follies committed in this world are due to a total ignorance of what has been before, and I can boldly assert that the knowledge of history which I personally have acquired, as little as it may be, has improved the quality of my life and helped me in countless situations. It is one of my greatest treats to read about the people and empires of long ago, and the tales of Antoninus, the greatest Roman emperor, Aristides, the justest citizen of Athens, Damon and Pytheas, those devoted friends, and Frederick Douglass, the man who was not afraid to stand up for himself, inspire me to continue every day in the pursuit of what deep down I know to be right. In this present day history
teaching seems to have reached an all-time low, and I am always surprised that it is the wars
and tyrants that are studied; it may be instructing sometimes to read
how one should not behave; but how much more fascinating is it to learn
about those men and women who truly succeeded in living their lives
without a single stain, and dying beloved of everyone. It is so
much easier to make a bad job of life than a good one, and it is the
knowledge that someone, somewhere, at some time once succeeded, that lets
us know it is even possible |
